New environment, New habits

Last week I travelled to Sevilla, Spain, not for vacation, not for relaxation, not for the sun.

Have you ever felt that something needed to change and that change requires something new? Not new in the sense of getting something new, but new in the sense of an update. An update in behavior, my own behavior, and habits.

As CHPC* coach, I think I have a fair level of healthy, empowering, and productive habits in my life. Habits like generating energy, and increasing productivity are examples of the six high performance habits that I strive for in my own life on a daily basis and that I teach and coach others on in their lives.

For what I want to experience in life, I have to admit that there is a new level and direction that I need to bring into my habits. Not completely changing my habits, as the application of the six high performance habits stays the same in principle. It is in what area (direction) in my life that I want to apply the habits (more). Take for example the habit of increasing productivity, besides being more productive (efficient/effective), am I spending my time/productivity (sufficiently) in the areas that I find important for my life in the long term?

To be honest, even though I’m considered by most people around me as productive, I’m not at the level of productivity that I aspire to be, especially in the direction in which I’m using my productivity/time. This is where routines, habits, and environment come into play and where I have decided to make a change in environment.

By going to Spain, away from my family, my regular surroundings, activities, and distractions. I have placed myself in a new environment, and new setting and created the opportunity to build new behavior and routines of aligning my time in the direction that I feel it needs to go in my life.

What does this direction mean? It relates to expansion, expansion of my care for others beyond my direct environment, expansion of my courage to share more about myself while engaging with others, and expansion of self, bigger than myself. In other words, live to my full potential even more.

An environment change, even temporary can be sufficient to give you the kick-start and momentum you need to start with new or improved habits, routines, and behaviors. So I have traveled to Spain not for vacation, not for the sun, but for new perspectives and habits on expanding my life as a coach and fellow human being who wants to express my care for others more.

Have you ever thought about renewing or updating your habits, behavior, and routines to change your life in the way you want or feel needed?
